Does anyone know if there is a neighborhood watch program in Ellensburg? If there is, who would I contact? If not, how would I go about setting one up? Some funky stuff going on in our neck of the woods right now. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
we tried this:

A few years ago, some of us tried to set up a neighborhood watch program. In my neck of the woods, noone really cared. We still watch out for each other but it's not quite what some of us were wanting (or expecting). What we did was this...
1. Talked to people about the idea
2. Posted fliers about a meeting in a public place, say a park or somewhere closeby.
3. Contact the EPD. They were extremely helpful in ideas and information.
4. (most important) See who is actually willing to walk the neighborhood during the night and at sporadic hours to keep an eye on the "funky stuff". Switch off the shifts so the burden does not fall to just one person.
Good luck, keep me posted.

I know Cle Elum used to have a neighborhood watch program because i think I still have a sticker out in the garage. Typically the way they worked was an Officer from the Police Dept would come out in an evening and give a presentation and neighbors would discuss the issues and be made aware of the problem. Exchanging phone numbers and names is handy also.
I know personally of neighbors who watched while strangers entered our neighbors house and carried out numerous items including TV's etc. In Cle Elum I had one neighbor who saw a sawzall, nailgun, drills, etc in a pile at the edge of my garage who while he thought it was suspicious he didnt do anything. My loss ended up being $1300
Awareness of whats going on is about 90% of the problem.

Thanks for your ideas. We are going to sit back and watch a little. As we get into the long hot summer days, things may esculate, and if they do, we may go from there. Just been some little things missing, pallets from a neighbors yard, our washtub with a leak, ha ha,(btw to whoever took it, we used it to give the dog a bath, and wash horse blankets, so don't put your drinks in it!) you get what you take! Going to make sure everything is put away. We all know each other here and watch out for each other, so that makes me feel better than anything else.
sitting back and watching.

Please keep us posted. There was a lack of interest in the neighborhood watch in my neighborhood. If you do get yours rolling, some hints as to how you successfully did it would help a lot! We, too, end up with wierd things that go missing. A wheelbarrow with a rusted out bottom and a rake were the strangest so far.
Good luck!

a lot of bad things happen because good people do nothing?
Or you will have a good idea for somthing that no one else is doing have a meeting get people around to talk they will all know how to do it better but wont cooperate to do anything.
Everybody should be looking out and watching keeping eye on goings on.
Hope your watch idea works out and helps your area.

Hi there —
I'm wanting to write a story about neighborhood watch programs. If you or anyone you know is participating in one, or wants to speak on how useful it would or would not be, please e-mail me at ckrotzer@kvnews.com as soon as possible, as this story is slated for Thursday.
Thanks,
Chelsea

Community members and businesses are working with police to start a block watch program for the DT area. May start in the next 30 days or less.
