Tea Parties in Kittitas County

I havent heard of anything and I would bet the Safeway still has tea on the shelf. The Tea Parties are being promoted by Republicans and Fox News. So far the protest reminds me a little bit of the Republican organized protests against Hillary Clinton and universal medical coverage from 1993. Officially the Republicans will probably deny being involved in the tea party.

Can you be a SS recipient, farm subsidy recipient, medicare recipent, federal retiree or DV and still be angry about taxes? Maybe if you are a Republican...lol.

If there is a Tea Party in Ellensburg I think its a safe bet the Kittitas County Republicans will be behind it.

Hi Clem,

There are none in Ellensburg that I know of, but there is a well organized one in Yakima that will be happening tomorrow. The makeup of the group is pretty evenly split between donkeys and elephants though, so not sure about the KC Republicans theory.

The Tea Parties themselves are a protest not of the taxes themselves, but of the astronomical spending in DC that is going to CAUSE said taxes to skyrocket. Spending that started in the last administration and accelerated by this administration. Neither party is blameless in this debacle, so the Tea Parties have less to do with politics and more to do with policies.

If anyone is interested, you can visit http://www.the912project.com to learn about what the Tea Parties are really all about, and the values and principles that used to define this country. Liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican, it does not matter. All are welcome to lend their voice.

Have a good day :-)

Blame... bymohenjo April 15, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
It's funny to me to see people protesting and blaming Obama for the mess we're in. How little do they forget history.

Granted yes, I was very disappointed to hear about the additional bailout money. However, I realize that the mess we are in has nothing to do with what Obama has done since January.

Recall that the previous administration did everything in its power to deregulate the financial industry. Banks and other high-power individuals made so much money during the Bush years, and now they're seeing what happens when you push people and credit to their limits. It was actually Bush that set up the first bailout. Do you really think that if people can ask (and receive) billions of dollars from the government once, that they will stop asking? Heck no, it's just another way for the rich to squeeze more money out of us.

So for those looking to stand out and protest today, fine. Fantastic. Just realize that this entire mess was a product of Bush and the republicans. As usual, the democrats are left to clean up...
Tea Parties: neo-cons are getting desparate byfishmonger April 15, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
What else can you do but stage a bunch of theatrics to try to draw attention away from Obama's attempt to clean up the financial black hole the Republicans left us in yet again? I mean really... Hannity, Gingrich and Fixed News are becoming more and more desparate. Where were these folks when Bush-Cheney were looting our Treasury for billions to build "cultural centers" in Iraq, making sure their Texas and Saudi billionaire friends were bathing in profits and letting their buddy Ken Lay (Enron) rip us off for energy costs? Can you imagine if McCain had actually won? He and Phil Gramm standing there right now with our economy completely collapsed and Phil telling us that we're "whiners" and the recession is "all mental" while Sarah Palin waxes poetic? These morons wont' win another presidency in at least 8 years, maybe longer. They aren't reinventing themselves, they're imploding.

I just read this. Hope the posted link works. Does NOT matter what party you are affiliated with, enough is enough in my opinion. Why take it there. Enough blame, make the Government do exactly what most of us do. Pay our bills on time, monthly and stay current! http://www.king5.com/localnews/stories/NW_041509POB-tax-heal

Point taken, BUT.... if we ignore what got us into this mess in the first place we're most likely bound to repeat it. Let's be honest about how we got here so we don't go and do the same thing all over again (with any party anywhere any time).
What do people want to cut? byClem April 17, 2009 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I guess I dont understand what they want to cut. The unemployment rate in the upper county is probably in the 15% range and people are moving out of the area. I guess if the tax protestors had their way the whole banking industry and construction would collapse leading us into a depression. Kittitas County is a net importer of tax redistribution so cutting taxes isnt going to help the county.

The obvious targets for cutting spending are medicare, social security, farm subsidies, and miltitary spending. Lets get Hannity and Limbaugh discussing those issues instead of grand standing on tea bags. It does look like Obama has gone after some of the wasteful spending done by the pentagon. The f-22 fighter and c-17 cargo plane are getting the ax. Maybe someone will take a look at the number of carrier task forces we support.
Unemployment Rate In Upper County byCleElum1 April 17, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Suncadia just laid off 43 more people this week and "the word is no new hires" other than seasonal-temp's without bene's. The work these people did will be pushed off on those still working, increasing they're loads. Obviously, they want to get rid of bene's, duh.

Shoemaker's and Zacklifts is making even greater use of out of country manufacturing. Wonder how long before they fold up altogether?

Safeway's has pretty much gotten rid of most their "journey-man" employee's and are really only interested in newer low paid employee's. Can't blame them, I hear the retirement fund is under funded, hmmm.

And I've seen even more houses and property going up for sale everywhere AND there are more houses for rent that are sitting empty.

Still a great demand for truck drivers in the county. Getting more difficult to get the commercial license but it isn't impossible. Not too exciting hauling cans back and forth to the docks from E-burg twice a day but it does pay considerably more than minimum wage.

And then there's always long haul and only coming near the home front two to three times a month.

Picking fruit in the orchards isn't real up scale but if someone is motivated and able to do the work you can make money that way and there is always a shortage of pickers. Cherry crop should be coming in, strawberries are usually the first up.

No easy answers, definitely not many decent options. But for those that are out there searching, you have all my good thoughts and encouragement.

Did check the news in Anchorage AK again for jobs. Nome is looking for a police chief. Oh boy.

A.

Saw a sign in BiMart today for part time cashiers. Not great for trying to keep a family afloat, but might work as a household 'supplemental' for someone.
